Understanding Etsy’s fees

Etsy charges four different types of fee. Here’s what each one means and how it’s calculated.

Listing fee — £0.16

Charged every time you list or renew a product. Each listing lasts 4 months, then auto-renews (and charges again). If you have 100 listings, that's £16 every 4 months just to keep them active.

Transaction fee — 6.5%

Charged on the total sale price including shipping. This is Etsy's main revenue source and the fee that hurts most as your sales grow. On a £30 sale with £4 shipping, that's £2.21.

Payment processing — 4% + 20p

Etsy Payments processes your customer's card payment. This is higher than Stripe's UK rate (1.5% + 20p) because Etsy adds their own margin on top of the underlying card processing cost.

Offsite ads — 15%

If Etsy runs an ad for your product on Google or social media and someone clicks it and buys within 30 days, you pay 15% of that sale. Mandatory if you earn over £10,000/year, optional below that threshold.

Frequently asked questions

Are these Etsy fees up to date?

Yes, as of early 2026. Etsy's fee structure is: 20p listing fee (every 4 months), 6.5% transaction fee, 4% + 20p payment processing (UK), and 15% offsite ads fee (if applicable). We'll update this calculator if Etsy changes their fees.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping too?

Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee and 4% + 20p payment processing fee are both calculated on the total order amount including shipping. This catches many sellers off guard.

Can I opt out of Etsy offsite ads?

Only if you earned less than £10,000 on Etsy in the past 12 months. Above that threshold, offsite ads are mandatory — you can't opt out. The fee drops to 12% once you earn over $10,000 USD.

What does Haul charge instead?

Haul charges a flat monthly subscription (from £15/mo) and zero transaction fees. The only per-sale charge is Stripe's standard UK card processing rate: 1.5% + 20p. That's it.

When does Haul become cheaper than Etsy?

For most sellers doing more than about £200/month in sales, Haul works out cheaper than Etsy even after the subscription. The more you sell, the bigger the gap — because Etsy's fees scale with revenue while Haul's subscription stays flat.
